Christian Eriksen’s internal defibrillator saved his life after collapsing in Denmark friendly, says team doctor

Medical staff immediately rushed to the Dane’s attention as players formed a huddle around him in horror scenes.
The match was quickly abandoned but the Wolfsburg star was thankfully conscious and “well” as he was taken away in an ambulance with his wife Sabrina by his side.
Denmark were winning 2-1 thanks to goals by Patrick Dorgu and Joakim Maehle before Ukraine hit back with Viktor Tsygankov.
The harrowing incident took place five years after the playmaker suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 in a group stage match between the Danish national team and Finland.
The ex-Manchester United star’s heart stopped for roughly five minutes but thankfully made a full recovery.
The former Tottenham star was then given an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), which can detect dangerous heart rhythms and deliver corrective electrical shocks.
And Denmark’s team doctor Morten Boesen confirmed the ICD did “what it was put in place to do” before confirming that Eriksen is “okay”.
But it is still unknown what exactly happened to the Denmark international, who was taken to hospital for further tests.
Boesen said: “Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should.
“He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.
“He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital.
“But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay.”
Eriksen made an astonishing comeback after his first health scare in 2021 that forced him to leave Inter Milan due to Italian football health and safety regulations prohibiting players from competing with an ICD
The ex-Ajax star made a heroic return to the Premier League a year later as he joined Brentford and put together 11 impressive appearances that saw him amass one goal and four assists.
That led to a stunning move to Man Utd in 2022 where he spent three years before transferring to the Bundesliga.
