Wolverhampton Wanderers will pay heartfelt tribute to late star Diogo Jota and his younger brother André at Molineux on two significant occasions — this Saturday before the pre-season friendly against Celta Vigo, and again ahead of Wolves’ Premier League opener against Manchester City on August 16.
Ahead of Saturday’s match, the club will hold a moment of remembrance for the brothers, who tragically passed away this summer. Supporters are encouraged to arrive early as a minute’s silence will be observed before kick-off, followed by senior club officials laying floral wreaths in the final moments before the game begins.
The tribute ahead of the Manchester City fixture, Wolves’ first competitive match since Jota’s passing, promises to be even more profound. Diogo Jota, a fan favourite during his three years at the club, will be honoured with a moving tifo displayed in the South Bank stand, organised with support from the Old Gold Pack fundraiser. Fans will also create mosaics to fill the South Bank pre-match, and a minute’s applause will follow once players take the pitch.
As a fitting homage, Jota’s favourite song, Sting’s Fields of Gold, will play over the stadium speakers during the final moments before kick-off. Additionally, a special 100-page commemorative matchday programme dedicated to Jota — featuring interviews, tributes, and stories — will be available for pre-order.
Beyond these events, Wolves are working on permanent memorials at Molineux. The Billy Wright Statue on Waterloo Road has become a poignant site of remembrance for both Diogo and André. Items from the floral tributes left by fans have been preserved, with some set to be displayed permanently in the Wolves Museum.
In a unique artistic tribute, flower heads from the tributes are being transformed into ink, while remaining blooms have been composted for use across the club’s green spaces at Compton Park and Molineux.
These carefully planned commemorations reflect Wolves’ deep respect and enduring love for Diogo Jota and his family.
