Detectives have launched a major investigation following the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Zeshan Afzal outside a mosque in Smethwick. Emergency services were called to Oldbury Road shortly before 9pm on Friday, 20 February, after reports of disorder in the area.

The teenager was found with serious stab injuries and, despite efforts by paramedics, was pronounced dead a short time later. His death has sent shockwaves through the local community, with officers maintaining a visible presence in the area to reassure residents.
Although the immediate crime scene has now been closed, specialist teams continue to examine CCTV footage and gather witness accounts to piece together the circumstances that led to the violence. Forensic work and house-to-house inquiries are ongoing as investigators work to identify those responsible.
Police are urging anyone who was in the vicinity at the time, or who may have captured footage on mobile phones, dashcams or doorbell cameras, to come forward. Officers say even the smallest detail could prove crucial in establishing what happened and delivering justice for Zeshan and his grieving family.
