Amazon has announced plans to invest AUD$750 million in a state-of-the-art robotics fulfilment centre in Brisbane, marking a significant expansion of its logistics network in Australia and reinforcing its push toward automation.
The proposed facility, spanning approximately 150,000 square metres, is set to become one of the largest warehouses in Queensland. Designed to integrate advanced robotics with human operations, the centre will be capable of processing more than 125 million packages annually, dramatically increasing Amazon’s regional capacity to meet growing consumer demand.
Company officials say the investment underscores a long-term commitment to improving delivery speed and operational efficiency. “This new fulfilment centre represents the next step in combining cutting-edge technology with our workforce to better serve customers across Australia,” an Amazon spokesperson said.
Construction of the site is expected to generate more than 2,000 jobs during the building and fit-out phase, providing a boost to the local economy. Once operational, the facility will support over 1,000 permanent roles, ranging from logistics and operations to engineering and robotics maintenance.
Industry analysts note that the move reflects a broader global shift among major retailers toward automation, as companies seek to streamline supply chains and manage increasing volumes driven by e-commerce growth. “Investments of this scale highlight how critical automation has become in modern logistics,” said a retail analyst familiar with the sector.
The Brisbane centre is scheduled for completion in 2028, aligning with Amazon’s long-term strategy to scale infrastructure in key international markets. As competition intensifies in the e-commerce space, the project positions Amazon to strengthen its delivery capabilities while setting new benchmarks for efficiency in warehouse operations.
