By Anish Patel

India’s march toward a sustainable energy future gathered serious momentum last week as the Green Hydrogen Summit 2025 convened at SRM University, Andhra Pradesh. The landmark event brought together key stakeholders in renewable energy, signaling a bold intent to place India at the forefront of the global green hydrogen revolution.

The summit, jointly organised by IIT Tirupati, IISER Tirupati, and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, attracted an impressive roster of scientists, business leaders, investors, and policymakers.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, delivering the keynote address, declared the summit “a turning point in India’s clean energy mission.”

“Andhra Pradesh is ready to be a national and global hub for green hydrogen production,” said Naidu. “With the right innovation, investment, and infrastructure, we can lead India’s transition from carbon dependency to climate leadership.”

Throughout the two-day summit, panels and presentations focused on the real-world implementation of green hydrogen technologies, with an emphasis on commercial viability, public-private partnerships, and research-industry synergy.

Prof. D. Narayana Rao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of SRM University, underlined the urgency of moving from lab to market: “Scientific excellence must be matched by policy foresight and industrial scalability. The future of clean energy lies in collaboration across all sectors.” Several major players showcased their commitments:

Suzlon Energy and NTPC unveiled collaborative frameworks for large-scale electrolyzer deployment. BPCL announced investments in ammonia-based hydrogen storage. KPI Green Hydrogen shared new pilot results on water-efficient production methods. Yamna Industries revealed plans for a green hydrogen training center in Tirupati.

Exhibitions and technical sessions spotlighted India’s increasing capacity to manufacture critical components domestically, reducing reliance on imports and strengthening energy sovereignty.
