Trump Touches Down in UK for Second State Visit, Says He “Loves” Britain and Looks Forward to Meeting “Friend” King Charles

U.S. President Donald Trump has arrived in the United Kingdom for his second official state visit, declaring his affection for the country and his admiration for King Charles, whom he described as a “long-time friend” and “an elegant gentleman.”

Air Force One landed at Stansted Airport shortly after 9pm on Monday, where a guard of honour greeted President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. The pair disembarked hand-in-hand before being formally welcomed by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, U.S. Ambassador to the UK Warren Stephens, and the Viscount Hood, Lord-in-Waiting, representing King Charles.

The couple were swiftly escorted to Marine One, the presidential helicopter, which transported them to the Ambassador’s official residence, Winfield House in Regent’s Park, where they will stay during their visit.

Speaking upon arrival, President Trump expressed his fondness for Britain, referencing his long-standing personal and business ties to the country.

US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrive at Stansted AirportCredit.

“We had a good flight, a lot of people came with us. Tomorrow’s going to be a very big day, Mr Ambassador. I love Turnberry. I love Aberdeen. I have a lot of things here that warm my heart. It’s a very special place, a great place,” he said.

Asked about his upcoming meeting with King Charles, Trump continued: “We’re going to see him tomorrow. He’s been a friend of mine for a long time, and everybody respects him and they love him.”

The visit marks the President’s second state occasion in Britain and comes with a packed schedule of diplomatic engagements. Today’s itinerary is expected to include meetings with King Charles at Buckingham Palace, high-level discussions with government ministers, and a formal state banquet. The visit is being closely watched, given the current international climate, with trade, security, and defence likely to dominate talks.

Trump’s warm words for the UK echoed his previous visit, when he also praised Britain as a “special ally.” His remarks about his Scottish golf resorts at Turnberry and Aberdeen also underscored his personal links to the country, which have often featured in his public comments about the UK.

The state visit highlights the enduring relationship between London and Washington, with the President keen to present himself as a close partner of Britain. For his part, King Charles is expected to welcome the President formally tomorrow, reinforcing the historic ties between the UK and the United States.
